The Elgin OPP received a report of a vessel in distress off Port Bruce, Lake Erie last evening September 17th, 2020 around 9:11 pm. The operator of a 18 foot fishing boat reported that they run out of fuel and the water had become very rough. The two adult occupants onboard the vessel reported they were unable to get back in, their phone was almost out of power and they required assistance.

In conjunction with the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC Trenton) a search was conducted by a JRCC search aircraft and a OPP marine unit. The vessel was located around 10:15 pm by the JRCC search aircraft which deployed illumination flares. Prior to the OPP marine unit arriving on scene the operator of the boat was able to get a small trolling motor started and make their way safely back into Port Bruce. All parties on board were accounted for and no injuries were sustained in the incident.
