Two Arrested in Theft of Vehicle Investigation

The Elgin County OPP have arrested and charged two individuals with numerous criminal offences after police were alerted to a stolen vehicle being operated in the Aylmer, ON area on June 1st, 2020 around 11:20 a.m.

OPP along with Aylmer Police Service members were involved in the investigation which began with a report from a vehicle tracking service of a stolen vehicle from the Strathroy, ON area as currently being in the Aylmer, ON area. Police located the vehicle on Highway #3 at the West end of Aylmer at which time the suspect vehicle failed to stop for police. Police were able to track the vehicle and remotely disable it when it was safe to do so via the vehicle tracking service. The vehicle was safely stopped in the area of Highway #3 just east of Bell Mills side road, east of Tillsonburg, ON. The two occupants of the vehicle then fled on foot, one was immediately apprehended by officers while the second was arrested a short time later by the OPP K9 and Emergency Response Team members (ERT).

Police have charged a 27 year old Thames Centre, ON resident with;

  1. Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
  2. Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the of the Criminal Code
  3. Flight from a Police Officer contrary to section 320.17 of the of the Criminal Code
  4. Dangerous Driving contrary to section 320.12(1) of the Criminal Code
  5. Failing to Comply with a Release Order x 2 contrary to section 145(5)(a) of the Criminal Code
  6. Use of a Credit Card contrary to section 342(1)(c) of the Criminal Code

The 27 year old remains in custody pending a show cause bail hearing.

Police have also charged a 26 year old of no fixed address with;

  1. Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
  2. Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the of the Criminal Code
  3. Unlawfully in a Dwelling House contrary to contrary to section 349(a) of the Criminal Code
  4. Possession of a Prohibited Device contrary to section 92(2) of the Criminal Code

The 26 year old was released from custody on a Promise to Appear pending a future court date.
