Theft from Motor Vehicles

On 13th of Sept. 2019 Aylmer Police Service investigated 6 separate incidents of theft from motor vehicles that occurred overnight 12-13 Sept. 2019. The targeted area was Clarence, Dufferin and Farmington St. Aylmer ON. In each case, the vehicles were left unlocked and valuables left inside which included jewellery, house keys, i-pad, change, head phones, bank card. Residents are reminded that this is yet another example of crime of opportunity where thieves have easy access to valuables.

Prevention tips include: 

  • Remove all valuables (backpacks, cell phones, purses, wallets, sunglasses, GPS systems, keys, iPod’, shopping bags, from your vehicle.
  • If you must keep valuables in your vehicle, store and cover them in your trunk area.
  • Never leave a spare vehicle or house key in your vehicle.
  • Whenever possible, park your vehicle in your garage.
  • Lock your doors, and roll up your windows completely when you park.
  • Protect your insurance and registration documents as well as your garage door opener.
