RIDE check results in 3-day suspension and a drug charge:
On the 18th of September 2019 at 11:15 PM, members of the Aylmer Police Service were conducting a R.I.D.E (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) program at the intersection of John Street North and Chestnut Street within the Town of Aylmer. A 22-year-old male from Malahide was operating a 2019 Honda Civic and pulled up to the RIDE check. A roadside test was conducted resulting in “ALERT” reading. While speaking to the driver, officer observed a clear zip lock bag on the front passenger seat in plaint view. The contents of the bag included a plant/stem like substance that was brown in colour believed to be Psilocybin (Magic Mushrooms). 2.5 grams of Psilocybin was seized. As a result, male was charged with one count of Possession of a Controlled Schedule II Substance (Psilocybin) contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act. He was also issued a three-day license suspension.
