(ELGIN COUNTY, ON) – On August 12, 2019, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Elgin County Detachment arrested and charged Chad REU-WATERS, 45 years of age of Norfolk County in connection with the discovery of human remains in an area east of Port Burwell on May 6, 2019.
The accused is charged with:
- First Degree Murder (Criminal Code Section 235) and with
- Indignity to a Dead Body (Criminal Code Section 182[b]).
The deceased in this case is identified as Ashley Max Domenic PEREIRA of Mississauga, who was 33 years of age at the time of his disappearance in 2002.
Members of the OPP Elgin County Crime Unit, and Forensic Identification Services, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) are continuing this investigation.
The OPP conducts thorough investigations aimed at maintaining public safety and respecting victim families while protecting the integrity of the investigative process.

The substantial passage of time between the disappearance of the deceased and the discovery of human remains presented investigators with significant investigative challenges.
