Fatal Collision

The Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single vehicle collision on Pioneer Line near Kerr Road around 2:00 p.m. on September 22, 2019.

A lone eastbound vehicle went off the roadway, entering the ditch, and striking a tree on the north side of the road.

West Elgin Fire Department, along with St. Thomas Elgin Paramedics attended the scene.

The driver, was extracted from the vehicle by fire personnel and transported via land ambulance to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver, Kenneth BYERS age 75-years-old of Rodney, Ontario later died in hospital as a result of the collision.

The OPP’s Technical Collision Investigators attended the scene to further the police investigation.

The roadway reminded closed till around 9:00 p.m. and has since been reopened to traffic.

The investigation continues into the causes of this fatality.
