Break and Enter Canine track

The Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the area of Victoria Street in Port Burwell for a break and enter to a residence on February 5, 2020 around 8:30 p.m. Officers were able to locate a vehicle associated to the incident on Plank Road near Calton Line.

The vehicle failed to stop for police on Plank Road. An Elgin County OPP officer was able to successfully use a tire deflation device (spike belt). The vehicle then continued on and was last seen heading east towards Norfolk County on Eden Line.

Norfolk County OPP officers were able to locate the vehicle on Highway 59 north of Port Rowan, Ontario. The vehicle failed to stop for police again and came to a stop in a wooded area after what appeared to have been it losing its rear tire. The vehicle was later identified as stolen out of Stratford, Ontario.

The OPP Canine Unit was dispatched to assist in the apprehension of the suspect(s).

At this point in the investigation 26-year-old Jacob MCGILVEARY of Woodstock, Ontario has been charged with:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Break and enter
  • Trespassing at night
  • Fail to comply with release order

The accused was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice Simcoe on February 5, 2020.

The investigation is continuing as other suspects are still outstanding.
