On the 16th of July 2021, at 3:22pm, Aylmer officers responded to a collision reported on Talbot St W, near McDonalds.  On arrival it was apparent that an Elgin County Ambulance had been involved in a collision.

Investigation determined that Elgin County EMS were transporting a patient to St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital, traveling West on Talbot St. W, with lights and sirens activated.  A 16 yr old male from Aylmer was exiting the McDonald’s drive through and pulled out into the path of the ambulance.  The paramedic operating the ambulance attempted to avoid the collision however the ambulance and a 2009 Toyota Highlander collided.  The collision forced the Ambulance off the roadway and onto the north sidewalk where it collided with a No Parking Sign prior to coming to a stop.

The patient onboard the ambulance was transferred to a second ambulance to proceed to STEGH.  Damage sustained was light to both vehicles.  This matter is still under investigation and charges are pending.
