UPDATE: NEW SCHEDULE AT MCGREGOR

(This year McGregor Public School has introduced a new ‘balanced day’ schedule.  Principal Richard Auckland reports on how it’s working)  - “The balanced day has been something that has been used by many TVDSB schools.  McGregor is the first school in East Elgin to implement it.  It has been a successful implementation.  Any feedback received has been positive from students, parents, the staff and the community. The day goes by quickly and students have longer blocks of learning time. The blocks of learning time enable focused instruction and learning time for our students.  Students eat twice in the day at 10:40 a.m. and again at 1 p.m.  Students seem to be eating better also as a result of our snack program which was implemented this year which focuses on providing fresh fruits and vegetables for each of our students.  Feedback was requested at our school council meetings and through our newsletter and any comments received were in support of continuing the schedule for 2012-2013.”

ONE YEAR AGO THIS WEEK:

 ‘YOUTUBE BABY’ HAS AYLMER CONNECTION

(Information from Karen Helwig, of London, mother of the baby in the current popular Youtube ‘”Baby Scared Blowing Nose”  video. Karen is the daughter/step-daughter of Ruth and Jeff Haldenby  of Aylmer. She says Emerson visits Aylmer at least once a week.) -  “I took the video Monday, March 14th just before lunch. I had been sick for about a week before I took the video, and Emerson (the baby)  would occasionally get really scared when I blew my nose.  That morning was the first time he would laugh afterwards, so I got out the video camera and started recording. I uploaded the video to YouTube because I really wanted my husband to see it.  The video started getting a lot of views the first day, and within 24 hours, Ryan Seacrest posted a link to the video on his webpage!  We can’t believe all the attention it’s getting.  We were even on the Today Show and Good Morning America yesterday morning!”
