AYLMER CRUISERS ON DRIVE FOR TOYS

(Contributed) – “Our local ‘Olde’ Aylmer Cruisers were busy fund raising during the 2011 Cruise Season. They shared the funds they raised among several local groups including this large donation to the Aylmer Optimist toy drive. On Saturday at their annual Christmas dinner, the Cruisers presented a substantial donation of toys to Dave Green, Chairman of the Optimist toy drive.  Cruise Members include: Tony & Fran Whaley, Millie Behie, Terry & Lana Dans, Gerald & Linda Scott, Mark & Donna Hone, Peter & Jackie Lavoie, John Davey & Laureen Allen, Charlene Horst, Larry & Kathy Davey, Brian & Cindy Slaught, Rick & Suzanne McGregor, Don & Nancy Steenbergen, Rick & Sharon Wilson, Larry & Sharon Brown, Basil & Margie Derrough, and Roy & Gloria Schnekenberger.

PARIS – The Spits were nipped 5-4 in a shootout here last night in Niagara Junior C hockey. The Spits are home again on Saturday against Norwich.

FRED EAGLESMITH IN AYLMER

-

(Information on last Saturday’s Fred Eaglesmith concert at the Old Town Hall Theatre, sponsored by APAC, was provided by Mary Elgersma, his Business Manager):

1.How long has his band been together? – “ Each of the band members have been with Fred for varying lengths of time. Kori Heppner – the drummer has been in this band the longest (10 years). 

2. Where was the other half of the Fabulous Ginn Sisters? – Sometimes Tif Ginn tours without her sister. They will be performing together at Fred’s Port Dover shows this week.

3.  Did the two busses camp out in Aylmer overnight Saturday? Supper in Aylmer? –  They drove home to Pt. Dover after the concert. They ate pizza at the venue.

4. What next for Fred? –  Fred is home for a few days. This weekend is his Pt. Dover Winter Concert. He will be home now until New Year’s Eve. (They then head out to the southern U.S. and eventually go to the Yukon in the spring)

5. How long has the opening act been part of the show? – Bill Passalacqua is Tif Ginn’s husband and he has been travelling with Fred for a couple of years. He started doing a regular opening set this past summer. “

AYLMER POLICE REPORT

-

-A bicycle valued at $200 was stolen from an unlocked  Farmington Ave. shed sometime Thursday night – it is a green Cranked mountain bike, 21 speed.

-A 23-year old Aylmer woman was charged with assault after she punched her boyfriend in the head after a dispute during a party at a Beech St. residence early Sunday morning. 

-Christmas decorations were taken last Tuesday from a South St. west front yard display.

-A male  EESS student was suspended and given a Diversion program after he was caught taking $30 from a teacher’s purse in a classroom last Thursday

-In Elgin court recently,  a 35-year old St.Thomas  male was acquitted by a jury on 5 counts of various assaults and sexual assault on his 31-year old x-wife; the charges resulting  from a 2006 incident in Aylmer.

POLICE HOST ‘CRAM THE CRUISER’

-

(Contributed) – “On Friday and Saturday,  the Aylmer Police and Elgin Feeds are hosting “CRAM THECRUISER”.  An Aylmer Police car will be on site at Elgin Feeds located on John & Beech . The cruiser will be open to “cram” it full of food or gifts over the two day event. Collected items will be forwarded to the Aylmer Corner Cupboard and the Aylmer Optimist Toy Drive.”
