“KEN WILLIAMSON BUILT AYLMER STRAND”
-
AYLMER – Ken Williamson, who died this week, not only began the former Aylmer Dairy in 1938 (on John St. North, later relocated to Talbot St. East – Goodwills) but in 1947 established the town’s last movie house, the Strand Theatre. Aylmer had the Capitol Theatre on the north side of Talbot St. east previously but it closed in 1947, being deemed too small for the times by its owners. Williamson and partner Robert McEwan then erected a larger building – the Strand – at the corner of Sydenham and John to keep motion pictures active in town.
