- (This information is provided by Linda Wall) I am a member of the gospel band “The Lanterns”. We have been together for about 7 yrs. and all are from the Aylmer area. There are 8 members. My husband Dave Wall (acoustic guitar/lead vocal/harmony), myself (harmony), my two sisters Justina Kornelsen (lead vocal), and Martha Bergen (bass guitar/harmony), and then there’s Ellie Friesen (harmony) and Anita Thiessen (lead vocal/acoustic guitar), who are sisters as well, and John Guenther (drums), and Ben Krahn (electric guitar). We are a very devoted bunch and get together every Monday for practice.

How did we come up with the name “The Lanterns”? Well, we wanted something that would show we wanted to be a light. …God wants us to be a light. So I mentiond that a lantern has a light and so on. We started by having special numbers at churches and people seemed to really enjoy our music and strangers would come up to us and ask whether we had an album. We decided that we should try recording an album and see how it would go. We looked at who our fans were/are and who we wanted to minister to. And our majority of fans are low german speaking people. So we decided that we would record a german/low-german album titled “Disse Welt Es Nicht Mien Tus” (This World is not my Home) first and see how it would go. We were amazed at how well the album was selling. It is poorly recorded but God was really blessing us. We were singing in this area and the Leamington area to promote our new album. We sent cds to some Mennonite stores in Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Texas, and Mexico.

Now people were asking for a second album and so we did an english one titled “Light of Love”. …also poorly recorded but better then the first one but still were very blessed with it too. We got an invitation from Mexico to come sing for our fans out there. After much planning and praying, the group decided to go do a tour in Northern Chihuahua, Mexico in August, 2007. What an adventure! We all got to go to where we originated from. We were there for two weeks. Once back home , we continued singing and once more, people asked for another album.
We started our own recording studio right here in Aylmer in 2008. What a blessing. My husband Dave runs the system. We recorded our third album ourselves titled “Dankscheen Mami”, (Thankyou Mama), low-german, right out of our own studio.

In August of 2009 we were invited to come to Alberta to sing. Again after planning and seeking God’s guidance, we set off to Alta. We were there for just over a week and were very blessed again. After coming back from Alberta, we decided to take a couple of months off. Well, a few months turned into a year but we are back at it again now. Our first time was at the EMMC church at Summers Corners and we sang for the program called Celebrate Recovery. We are curently in the works of our fourth album. …we haven’t decided the title of it yet.”
