BELMONT MAN IS FATALITY

 

LONDON – (From The Free Press) – Peter Potter, 86, of Belmont was killed in single-vehicle crash in southeast London on Tuesday around 11 pm. The collision occurred at Wilton Grove Road and Veterans Memorial Parkway when his vehicle, travelling south on Veterans Memorial Parkway, left the road and came to a rest in a bush. He was taken to hospital where he died of his injuries. Peter was a member of the Aylmer Curling Club last year.

MALAHIDE BREAK/ENTER; SHOTS FIRED

GLENCOLIN – (From Elgin OPP) – On Christmas Eve around 9 pm the OPP responded to a report of an attempted break and enter which had just occurred. An unknown male attended a commercial business on Carter Road north. He confronted an occupant, demanded entry, and displayed a firearm. The suspect broke a window but did not gain entry and fled the scene in a dark coloured sport utility vehicle (SUV). No property was stolen and no one was injured in the incident. The suspect is described as a slender male, in his mid-20’s, approximately 5’8”–5’10” tall, and wearing a blue baseball cap. Minutes later the OPP were dispatched to a report of a suspected gunshot which had just occurred. As a vehicle drove westbound on College Line, multiple shots believed to be from a firearm were heard. Projectiles entered two residences through exterior walls. No occupants were injured. OPP inform that the suspect has not been located and are working to determine whether the incidents are linked.

LUCAN – Aylmer Spitfires spotted the home team a 2-0 lead in the first half and then exploded for an 8-3 trouncing of Lucan- including three power play goals – in Provincial Junior C hockey last night. Jamie Brzozowski led the Spits with two goals with singles going to Tanner Rickwood, Jake Morin, Channin George, Tyler Hinde, Sebastian Nogueria and Dallas Loiselle. The Spitfires now have 8 wins and 17 losses for eighth place in the nine team league – Lucan is in last place.

OBITUARIES:

 

-Pace, Gerald Frank of Vienna passed away Friday aged 76. Survivors: wife Patricia (Mills); two sons including Jeffrey (Lillian) of Vienna etc.. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion # 524 in Port Burwell.

 

-Clary, Bessie Lee (Clark) of Courtland and formerly of Vienna passed away Thursday at the age of 93. Bessie and her husband William farmed in the Vienna area for many years. Predeceased by her husband William H. Clary (1976). Arrangements with the Verhoeve Funeral Home Tillsonburg where the funeral will be held Friday at 11 am.

LEGION NEW YEARS’ LEVEE

 

The annual Aylmer Legion New Year’s Day Levee will be held from 1-3 pm on Monday, January 1st. Clam Chowder and Moose Milk will be served. A Dress Code is in effect.

 

 

MALAHIDE FIRE #2 FOOD DONATION

 

(Information from Malahide Fire Services #2 Chief Randy Loewen) – “This year Malahide Station #2 did our third annual food drive on November 25/26 and December 2 in front of No Frills Grocery. The residents of Aylmer and area did not disappoint by donating over 6 pick up truck loads of food and over $2600 – all going to the Aylmer Corner Cupboard. Thanks to No Frills for their assistance and to all who donated.”
