(Contributed) Bayham Beachfest will be held this Civic Holiday weekend in Pt. Burwell. Starting at 6 pm on Friday evening, kids will enjoy music, games and Phatty’s Pizza for $5 per child. The movie Moana will start at dusk.The fun continues on Saturday with a volleyball tournament, live music at the beer garden, bouncy castles, a magician and Craig the Science Guy. Sunday activities start with a pancake breakfast at the Firehall and yoga on the beach. Visit the vendors and silent auction and enjoy music on the beach. Beachfest ends with a bang with the Fire Guy and a huge fireworks display at dusk. For more details, check out



OBITUARY – Douglas David Brown (1948 – 2017). On Tuesday, July 25, 2017, Douglas David Brown of Eden passed away at the age of 69 years. Survivors: wife Hellene;  five children including Jim Brown (Nicole) of Aylmer etc.. Doug was an employee of East Link for over 40 years. Visitation at Ostranders Funeral Home Tillsonburg on Sunday, July 30, 2017 from 2 – 4 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m. The Memorial Service for Doug will be held there on Monday at 11 am.

(Information on this coming weekend’s EESS 1960-3 Reunion is from Mike Streib of the Organizing Committee) – “We have over 175 registered and they are coming from as far away as Kelowna, Calgary, the southern States and all across Ontario. The committee is very pleased with the results. Each of our venues is being well attended; we have an excellent array of gifts for our silent auction table on Saturday evening. School tours are scheduled for Saturday (1:30 – 4:pm) and Roy Pickard is bringing his Aylmer Shrine Club Cruisers to the German Canadian Club Parking lot from 2–4 pm on Saturday as well. The dinner and dance at the German Canadian Club begins at 5 pm and ‘hopefully’ we are rocking the night away until 1 am.





-Hicks, Marilyn of Turkey Point and formerly of Aylmer passed away Tuesday July 18; aged 77. Predeceased by her husband Duane (2003). Survivors: two children etc.. The funeral was held yesterday; arrangements with the HA Kebbel Funeral Home.


-Wiebe, Elizabeth of Aylmer passed away Tuesday July 18 in her 80th year. Survivors: husband Peter Wiebe; six children etc.. She was born in Mexico, came to Canada in 1986 and was a cook at the Hacienda Restaurant. The funeral was held yesterday; arrangements with the HA Kebbel Funeral Home.


-Scott, Marion Lucille (Charlton) of Aylmer passed away Wednesday in her 91st year. Predeceased by her husband Donald. Survivors: daughter Allene Scott of Aylmer etc.. She was born in Aylmer and worked as a medical secretary for Drs. Colquhoun, Poots, and Beveridge. A graveside service for immediate family was held on July 21; arrangements with the HA Kebbel Funeral Home.

“Transport Truck and trailer and approximately 4 acres of field on fire. Approximately 20 firefighters and 6 trucks attended around 4:45 pm. Fire was under control by 5:15 and extinguished by 5:30.  Damage estimate is unknown but could rise past $100,000 based on truck and trailer full of wheat.

(Contributed) – The new exhibit is Main Street Memories. It will look at the turn of the century on Main Street. It features the types of stores that existed at that time in Aylmer and Malahide. It opens July 10th and will run until November 24.





JULY 25 – AYLMER HYDRO OUT – (Information from Tim Stafford of Hydro One) – South Aylmer and parts of Malahide were without power again today – from around 6 am to Noon – as the morning storm with accompanying high winds downed many poles and left some 2200 customers in the dark.


JULY 22 – AYLMER HYDRO OUT- “Approx. 4100 customers affected by the outage on a 115,000 volt line feeding Aylmer and Tillsonburg today. Tillsonburg was out approx. an hour in places and Aylmer for 4 hrs in places. Customers were restored in stages. The problem was a failed cross arm on a twin pole structure at Lyons. Caused by lightning damage from a prior storm.”


JULY 21 -The Elgin St.Thomas Health Unit is sending out a Heat Warning for Thursday-Sunday because Environment and Climate Change Canada is predicting hot humid weather for the rest of the week.
