(Information on decisions made by Aylmer Council at its regular meeting last night is from Clerk Nancie Irving)


-Re- OPP costing proposal – “Council receives the information from the Joint Advisory Committee OPP Costing meeting held on June 27 and advises the Municipal Policing Bureau that Council wishes to discontinue the OPP Costing Proposal process at this time and the Joint Advisory Committee OPP Costing be disbanded. (Council approved this motion by a 5-2 margin with Cos. McDonald and Laur opposed)


-Re-Dufferin Street Road Reconstruction Project Tender -Council approves the recommendations from the Town’s Engineer to proceed with the Dufferin Street Road Reconstruction Project and accept the tender form from Titan Group Construction for the amount of $789,884.


-Re-Parking bylaw changes – Council approves the following changes for 2018 after the Talbot St. west reconstruction project: removal of the parking spaces on the north side of Talbot St. west across from EESS; add parking spaces on the west side of St.Andrew St. south of EESS; allow for All Way stops at Caverly Rd and South St and Queen St and Water St; and removal of the parking spaces on the north side of Sydenham St west across from the Post Office.”

-Friday; 4pm – Dispatched to 258 Talbot St. E. for a stove fire. Staff on site extinguished the fire in the oven with an extinguisher. Staff & residents evacuated safely, no injuries.





-Loewen, Sara of Aylmer Reirement Residence passed away Saturday aged 78. Survivors: husband Bernard “Ben” Loewen; six children etc.. She was born in Mexico. Visitation at the HA Kebbel Funeral Home Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held at the E.M.M.C. at Summers Corners on Wednesday at 1 pm.


-Worden, Robert Michael of Springfield and formerly of Hamilton passed away Thursday in his 80th year. Survivors: wife Barbara Young; two children etc.. A graveside funeral service was held Saturday at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.


-Edey, Audrey of St. Thomas and formery of Toronto passed away Friday in her 97th year. Survivors: neice Rowanne Vivoda (Ed) Aylmer etc.. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements with the HA Kebbel Funeral Home.


-Connolly, Roy of Port Burwell passed away Wednesday aged 84 years. Predeceased by his wife Gladys Connolly. Survivors: four children etc.. A celebration of Roy’s life will be held on Saturday at 17 Elizabeth St. Port Burwell from 2-5 pm. Arrangements with Ostranders Funeral Home, Tillsonburg.


-Wilcox, Helen (Begg) formerly of Aylmer and RR3 St. Thomas passed away Wednesday in her 95th year. Survivors: husband Robert G. “Bob” Wilcox; two children etc.. Helen was a Registered Nurse, and a Past President of the Aylmer Curling Club. A private family graveside service will be held at Orwell Cemetery. Arrangements with the Sifton Funeral Home, St.Thomas.



-Hamilton, Adam Robert of Kitchener, formerly of Aylmer, passed away at Algonquin Park with his brothers in his 28th year. Beloved husband to Krystal(Froese) and proud father of soon to be Baby Hamilton. Born in St. Thomas on August 15, 1989, son of Randy Hamilton of St. Thomas and Christine (Falkenham) Hamilton(Ken) of Aylmer. Brother to Joshua(Deb) of Cambridge and Eric(Kim) of Aylmer and brother-in-law Justin of Aylmer. Son-in-law of Martha Froese, Aylmer and John Froese(Rosie) of Aylmer. Loved dearly by his Grandparents, Joel & Betty Falkenham, Marion Hamilton, John Froese and Margaret & Henry Wiebe. Visitation at the HA Kebbel Funeral Home, Aylmer on Wednesday 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The funeral will be held on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at 11:00 am.






(Some information from Elgin OPP as well as Malahide Fire Chief Brent Smith) – Malahide Fire Services were kept busy on Friday evening, July 8 with several incidents of downed power lines. Said Fire Chief Brent Smith: “We had extremely high winds with rain that came through the area that day, almost like a micro burst in a small narrow corridor that was not experienced anywhere else in the county.” MFS responded to downed lines on Imperial Road, Ron McNeil Line, Sparta Line, Hacienda Road, Vienna Road and Calton Line between 9 and 11 pm. Tim Stafford of Hydro One reported that Aylmer staff with assistance from Simcoe, Beachville and Clinton offices responded to multiple wind, tree and lightning calls in Malahide that night including a pole fire in Copenhagen. Stafford also said there was not much trouble from the storm that hit south Malahide late this past Wednesday evening.

-July 4th, both stations responded to a vehicle fire on Lakeshore Line. A pickup truck was fully involved on arrival.

-July 6th, Station 1 Port Burwell, medical call to Edison Dr. in Vienna.
