CO.: NO DISCUSSION ON LIBRARY?

In a surprizing move at Aylmer Council’s regular meeting Monday, Co. Pete Barbour withdrew his motion to make plans for library expansion in the ‘town square’ before the meeting began. Said Co. Barbour: “My intent was to stimulate conversation on this plan; prior to this meeting I tried to contact other Councillors to see what we could do. I was going to include the Myrtle St. option on our list. But I am not comfortable there is support to adopt this motion so I wish to withdraw it.” There was no further discussion.

Co. Barbour’s plan was to set up a public committee to assess size, type of building and anticipated cost for three sites within the ”Town Square” – an addition to the west side of the existing library, an addition to the south side of the existing library or a new stand alone building – then hold a public meeting for discussion with hopes of providing a recommendation to Council by November.

EESS REPORT

BY ALEXIS FEHR

“Events are starting to slow down as the end of the year quickly creeps up on unsuspecting students. On May 30th there was a PAC meeting and on the 31st Coffee House was performed. On June 1st there was the Athletic Banquet. RPGCA had a year end celebration on the 7th. At lunch on the 8th there was a Sr. football meeting, a girls softball meeting, and grilled cheese sandwiches were being sold in the courtyard. RPGCA had another meeting on the 9th. There was a dodgeball tournament on the 12th at lunch in the new gym. The final assembly will be on the 15th and for those who want to graduate grade 12 you need to bring in your volunteer hours. Not much going on, but there is lots of preparation for exams at this time of year.”

1960-63 EESS REUNION IN JULY

(Information from Mike Streib) During the weekend of July 28 – July 30, students and staff who attended (any grade) or taught at East Elgin High School from 1960 – 1963 are invited to a reunion here. Friday begins the weekend with a ‘Meet ‘n Greet’ at Parkers Party Palace (7 pm – ?); Saturday kicks off with a BBQ at the Legion 11:30 am – 1.  There will also be conducted tours of the high school (1:30 pm – 4:30). A classic cars display will be at the German Canadian Club (2 pm – 4:30). A Dinner and Dance will be at the German Canadian Club (5:30 pm – 1 am). On Sunday, we end the festivities with a brunch at the German Canadian Club (10 am – 12:30). We have a website with all the information. It is: https://jcouckuyt2.wixsite.com/eess. There is a registration form on the site. Pat Zimmer has organized a historical display of East Elgin memorabilia, and some Aylmer history during that era. Our business community is offering BIA Bonus dollars for Saturday shoppers and holding a Silent Auction during the Saturday festivities at the German Canadian Club. Any profits that are realized shall be donated to the Aylmer Corner Cupboard. Contact Mike Streib at 519-773-8177 or email: uplands@amtelecom.net.

This is the result of a chance meeting between Pat Zimmer and myself and in our conversation and reminiscing, we decided we should have a reunion of the ‘old gang’. Our committee consists of Jack Couckuyt, Pat Zimmer, Beth Phoenix (Stansell), Wanda Kapogines and myself.
