ONE YEAR AGO THIS WEEK:

 

FIRE AT HACIENDA RESTAURANT

AYLMER – There was a fire at the Hacienda Roadhouse Restaurant just east of Aylmer around 9 pm last night. The cause was electrical. Damage was estimated at $65,000 but the main structure was saved. Malahide Fire Services received Mutual aid from Bayham and Central Elgin fire services in battling the blaze. One firefighter sustained minor injuries and was transported to hospital by Elgin EMS but later released. The property owner, who according to a witness was inside the restaurant closing up, also sustained minor injuries.

 

 

AYLMER KINSMEN WALK FUNDRAISER

 

(Information from co-organizer Andy Beck) – The Aylmer Kinsmen will be hosting their second annual 1000 km. Journey on Saturday at East Elgin Secondary School from 4:30 pm to 11 pm. 75% of the proceeds will be for the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital Foundation for Cancer Centre mental health ward and 25% for “Our Community’s Greatest Needs”. This event is a ‘community event’ and will be team oriented – the goal will be to collectively walk 1000 km on the track at EESS. You can walk laps. There will be music by the Good Old Boys and Moore Ave Underground. Tammy’s dance Studio dancers will be performing from 6- 7 pm. There is no registration fee. We ask for a donation. There will be food for sale, a M and M Meats BBQ, a silent auction and face painting after 6:30 pm.

 

 

EESS AT OFSAA REGIONALS

 

Top ten placings by EESS athletes at the OFSAA regional track and field meet held recently: Junior Girls High Jump – Olivia Robinson, fifth; Junior Boys 3000 m – Nathaniel Abell, eighth; Senior girls’ shotput – Kendra Cornelissen, seventh.

 

 

OV NATURALISTS MONDAY

 

The montly meeting of the Otter Valley Naturalists will be Monday at the Vienna Community Centre. The OVN will be holding a potluck supper just before the meeting, starting at 6:30 pm. The presentation is by Becky Moule on Common and Uncommon problems with Trees.
