(Information from Teacher/Director Ceris Thomas)  – “I choose Xanadu because I was always a fan of the movie and I was lucky enough to see the Broadway production. The musical centres around Sonny Malone – an artist in Venice Beach, CA in the 1980s who is frustrated in his artistic abilities and several Greek Muses come to earth to help him in his quest for artistic freedom. The music of ELO and Olivia Newton-John is peppered throughout this tongue-in-cheek script that is nothing but loads and loads of fun. We have well over 30 students involved. We have two roles that are double cast – the lead role of Kira is being played by two Grade 11 girls: Lauren Tiersma and Darla Enns. As well the role of Calliope will be played by Madi Wall and Zoe Collins. The public performance dates are: June 7 and 8 beginning at 7 pm. The first half of the evening will be selected pieces from our performing arts students from their work this semester – Dance, Drama and Music – and the second act will be Xanadu. This piece is entirely extra-curricular. Tickets will be $10 and sales will be available on-line through the school.
