ONE YEAR AGO THIS WEEK:

AYLMER REVIEW SAYS TAX RATES GOOD

“In December Aylmer engaged StrategyCorp Inc., at a cost of $43,000, to conduct a service delivery review. Comparisons were also made with selected peer municipalities – Ingersoll, Tillsonburg, Goderich, Hanover, Saugeen Shores and Ganonoque. Police Services were excluded from the review. They submitted their report to Aylmer Council Monday. Some key findings/suggestions: Property tax revenues are average on a per-household basis compared to peers; Property tax rates have been declining since 2008 and are only slightly above average compared to peers; Aylmer’s Current Value Assessment is below average compared to peers and neighbours; The Town appears to be in a sound long-term financial position; Roads, Parks and Recreation costs are well below average; The town should hire a part time Economic Development Officer; The town should improve fire service training and hire a part time fire position to assist the Chief; Continue leaf collection and sidewalk ploughing services.”

BY ALEXIS FEHR

“Relay for Life was on Friday and everyone who attended had an amazing time. In the 12 hour event, for example, there was a dunk tank and a kangaroo cuddling station. On Tuesday the 16th PAC held a meeting. On the 19th was purple and gold day and hat day; to wear a hat students had to donate at least $2, which gets sent off to Compassion. On Wednesday the school held a blood donor clinic and this Wednesday is coffee house. Xanadu is coming on June 7th & 8th with both performances starting at 7pm; tickets are on sale now online for $10 per person. The grads are having a free brunch on June 20th at 11 am.
