NEW RESTAURANT AT WEST END

Brian Cluett of Corinth has recently opened up the West End Diner in the former Munns Groceteria store (just west of Godfathers Pizza) on Talbot west. He said he features fresh style home cooking  ie. wings, chicken, hamburgers etc. His decor is a 1940s style. The restaurant hours are: Sunday to Thursday 11 am to 7 pm; Friday and Saturday until 8 pm and Sunday 4-8 pm.

ONE YEAR AGO THIS WEEK:

“POST OFFICE RENOVATIONS”

“The Aylmer Post Office is getting its first major facelift since being built in the early 1970s. Regional Communications Officer Tom Creech of London, said that the lobby is being reduced, the east entrance is being closed off and the mailboxes now are on the new east wall. Renovations began in late summer and are mostly complete. There were no alternations made to the space behind the retail area. The Post Office  will be having an open house  on Friday, September 23 to officially “introduce” the new entrance.”

A READER WRITES:

(See yesterday’s Letters) – “No one is suggesting that Mr. Vandermeersch should not talk to his wife or seek her guidance. I and most people would do the same in his place. However, it can be and is being perceived, rightly or wrongly, by the public that there may be an attempt to subvert the processes of council by having a direct relative trying to influence council on a matter that he, as Councillor of the Town of Aylmer and a representative of its citizens, already has a voice on. Perhaps this should be taken into consideration before he dismisses the concerns of his constituents out of hand.”  (Doug Lee)

DAIRY BURY UPTOWN?

(From Aylmer Police) – On Sept 6 bones were discovered during excavation at a King Street business. A local veterinarian confirmed they belonged to a cow!

A READER WRITES:

“I noticed the Eastlink ad on your website and thought you might want to point out that Business bundles are available through Eastlink to many communities at $82/ month  but not Aylmer!  Rather our rates for phone/ internet are at least twice that;  Repeated complaints fall on deaf ears as business people in Aylmer are hamstrung by the high rates locally; Nothing changes despite our repeated questioning.” (Bob Warnock)

EASTLINK RESPONSE:

“We appreciate the feedback as we continuously review our service offerings.” (Ron Mervis, Eastlink Regional Manager)
