AYLMER SPITFIRES OUTLOOK

(Contributed by Charlie Roloson of the Spitfires Executive)

“The Spitfires could have up to 14 Vets coming back but that number could change depending on some players at Jr B camps and the possibility of losing some to work and school commitments.

The Jr D teams have been approved to make the move to Jr C for this season. They will be continuing to play in their regular Jr D leagues and the winner of that league will be moving on to play for the OHA Jr C Championship. Next year the Jr D&C  teams will be realigned into new leagues and play each other in the regular season. Each Jr D team will be playing a home & away game with a Jr C team this year. In Aylmer’s case we will be playing a home and away game with Lambeth.

Our most experienced players this year will be Scott Mugford & Rhys Thornton from St Thomas and Aylmerites Mitch Roloson, Todd Laurindo and Scott Walker who will all have 3 or more years experience.  Also from Aylmer returning is Clint Walker on forward and Greg Acheson in net. We are wishing Cody Underhill luck at his Jr B tryouts but if they don’t work out for him we will happily be accepting him  back as a dominant forward for our lineup this year. Our home opener for our 10th Season will be Sept 15.

A READER WRITES:

“Is the petitioner (re-Petition at Aylmer Council this Tuesday) Councillor Vandermeersch’s wife? Is the Councillor going to say he had no knowledge of this petition, I hope he didn’t sign it. I know politicians are always saying they don’t discuss any topics with their partners.”  (Dave Ward, Aylmer)

  1. John Vandermeersch says:

In answer to Mr. Ward’s question, not only did I know about it (the pettition) and sign it, I encouraged Irene and everyone else involved in this petition to garner as much support as they could. I am unsure why this would upset Mr.Ward unless it is his position that I gave up my rights as a citizen (and a husband) when I became a councillor. That would be an interesting twist of the political crank but not one I would subscribe to.

Believe it or not, I do indeed value Irene’s input and have said so many times. She has often shown more common sense than I and, therefore, is a valuable resource for me. I will continue to seek her guidance and will openly discuss all matters before council with her except those forbidden me by confidentiality. I trust no one thinks this petition or any other petition should be kept secret from anyone, councillors included. Maybe I’ll ask Irene for her opinion.
