AYLMER LEVY UP 2.91%

Aylmer Council at Monday’s session adopted the 2012 town budget. Said Administrator Jennifer Reyneart:  ”Our levy increase is 2.91%. Aylmer does not have a garbage levy. For Aylmer purposes, all of the garbage programs: recycling, pickup and disposal,  are part of our operating budgets and become part of our levy each year.  I understand that there are a number of municipalities that do charge garbage separately.”  (Last year’s levy increase was 1.24% and the previous year it was 4.12%)

ONE YEAR AGO THIS WEEK:

“PT. BURWELL ANGLICAN IS 175 SUNDAY”

PT. BURWELL – This Sunday, Trinity Anglican Church, Port Burwell, celebrates the 175th anniversary of the first service in their church. It was built and donated – one of the oldest in southwestern Ontario – in 1836 by village founder Colonel Mahlon Burwell. There will be a special service at 11:15 by the Bishop of Huron Right Reverend Robert Bennett.  Following the service, a marker will be unveiled in the cemetery to honour the pioneers and settlers who rest there in unmarked graves and the sod will be turned on a new outreach project, a community garden, at the parish hall. As well, any proceeds will be directed towards to the restoration of the original quatrefoil window in the steeple.”

EESS B.BALLER SIGNS WITH U.GUELPH

(Contributed) – “The Guelph Gryphons men’s basketball program is pleased to announce the commitment of recruit Stefan Cornelissen of Aylmer, Ont.  Cornelissen, a 6-foot-7 forward played at East Elgin Secondary School this past year and the London Ramblers Club Team. “We are excited to have Stefan join our program, he brings energy and size that is sorely needed here,” said Coach Chris O’Rourke. “Stefan is continuing to make huge strides in his game. I believe he will be the sleeper recruit in the OUA this season.”  Stefan is the son of Rick and Dita Cornelissen.
